Three staff recognized with 2024 CSE Excellence ++ Award

These individuals provide the professionalism and insight that enable the efficient operation of one of the largest units at the College of Engineering.

The CSE Division is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 CSE Staff Excellence++ Award. These individuals were chosen on the basis of their strong commitment, dependability, and extraordinary levels of contribution, and for their efforts to create a positive and inclusive culture in CSE, all of which are identified as criteria for nomination to this award.

All three of these individuals have proven themselves integral to the efficient operation of one of the largest units at the College of Engineering, and in doing so have helped our community to thrive. The following are highlights from nominating materials supporting the three recipients.

Kimberly Clark

Kimberly Clark

CSE Administrative Assistant Senior

Since joining CSE in 2017, Kim has been the cheerful face of CSE. She has also coordinated and contributed to a number of the important but often overlooked details that enable many of the events and processes at CSE, including event planning and organization for professorship events and distinguished lectures as well as the meetings of CSE’s National Advisory Board; the coordination of activities and paperwork for faculty awards; and leading the planning and ordering for catering at department events and meetings. Kim is also a part of the team that manages reimbursements for CSE. She assists with faculty affairs, such as faculty search and major reviews and manages a number of general office tasks that are too numerous to mention. Even with this wide range of responsibilities, Kim is quick to change and adapt plans as needed, and always focused on serving the needs of the CSE community.

Shelby Eddy

Shelby Eddy

CSE Undergraduate Academic Advisor

Shelby is recognized throughout CSE as a key contributor in CSE’s undergraduate advising office. She was one of the first professional staff hired to work in the office as advising has transitioned from faculty to staff, and her experience and insight has helped this change to be successful and made her a resource for her peers within the advising office. As an advisor, Shelby prioritizes communication and community building with CSE undergraduate students. When a student is struggling academically or personally, Shelby takes extra time to ensure that the student is heard, valued, and followed up with. Shelby serves as a collaborative key member of the CSE community as well. She has built partnerships between the UAO and the Division’s DEI team through her active engagement on the DEI committee. Shelby has also partnered with others in CSE to develop the IA Collab, a monthly community-building  initiative for CSE IAs and SUGS GSIs.

Therese Foran

Therese Foran

CSE Research Administration Manager

Therese manages CSE’s research administration group and also provides research administration support for fifteen faculty members and one research scientist, and the 60+ PhD students who work with them. Over the years, Therese has successfully led the administration of numerous proposal submissions, including very complex projects that have spanned multiple institutions and disciplines, each of which have required a significant amount of communication with researchers and staff working in other domains and environments. Many of these interactions require a sharp learning curve, as many funding agencies have differing grant rules and processes and collaborating entities have their own processes.  As a result of Therese’s intense attention to detail, dependability, and professionalism, faculty often remark that  her complete management of administrative work frees them to focus on the research aspects of proposals and other priorities in their academic careers.
