First four occupants move into Leinweber Computer Science and Information Building

They arrived just after 3:00pm on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Taylor Bruns, Allison Edelbrock, Corei Flowers, and Shelby Storm were the first people to officially move into the new Leinweber Computer Science and Information Building.
“It sure is quiet over here, and everything still smells new!”
Bruns, Edelbrock, Flowers, and Storm are all staff affiliated with the CSE undergraduate advising office (UAO). They’ve begun moving their effects to the UAO’s new office suite on the first floor of the Leinweber Building, which has room number 1270.
“What a nice space this will be for the students!”

With six advising offices, a spacious reception area, and access to an adjoining conference room, the new advising suite is much better scaled to meet the needs of CSE’s 3400+ declared undergraduates than the UAO’s existing space, which is located on the second floor of the Bob and Betty Beyster Building. It even has a kitchenette.
“Corei, the fridge is on. You could put your salad in here!”
Bruns is enthusiastic about the space. “It’s very exciting to be moving into a space designed for students to feel welcome,” she said. “I’m optimistic that CSE students will look forward to visiting the advising team here, allowing us to ultimately serve as a better resource for them.”

Storm added, “It’s hard to believe this moment is here! When I began at CSE five years ago, this building was still in the early design stages. It’s been incredible to watch it take shape over time. I’m so excited to see the UAO advising team grow in a space that’s truly built for the work we do. I hope this space makes it easier for students to connect, ask for help, and feel seen.”
Over the next few days, the rest of the UAO team will move their personal effects into the new advising suite. Computers should be installed next week. It’s not clear when the building will be fully open for foot traffic, but the power is on and the wifi is strong.
And, there will soon be plenty of new neighbors: Most of the School of Information (UMSI) is expected to arrive the week of May 19, and CSE faculty and graduate students will begin filtering into their new space about that same time. This co-location of UMSI and CSE in the Leinweber Building has been much anticipated.
“I was on main campus yesterday and ran into a really nice (and patient) good samaritan who kindly showed me the way to a coffee shop I was looking for,” said Flowers. “We began chatting and I learned that this was the Chief Administrative Officer at the School of Information. So, already getting to know the new neighbors!! Very cool guy, and I’m very excited to share the space with new people.”

Despite all the change, the mission and ethos of the UAO will be the same, with advisors helping students along their academic journey.
“And,” said Edelbrock, “The new office will still have a candy and snack tray.”
