Please join Prof. Steven Ceccio, Vincent T. and Gloria M. Gorguze Professor of Engineering and Interim Dean of Engineering; Prof. Michael Wellman, Richard H. Orenstein Division Chair of Computer Science and Engineering; and the Computer Science and Engineering Division as we honor Prof. J. Alex Halderman for his appointment to an endowed professorship.

Professor Halderman will be installed as the Bredt Family Professor of Engineering and will present a lecture.

Biography – J. Alex Halderman

Dr. J. Alex Halderman is Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan, Director of Michigan’s Center for Computer Security and Society, and Director of the CSE Systems Lab. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Princeton University. Prof. Halderman’s interests include computer and network security, Internet measurement, censorship resistance, and election cybersecurity, as well as the interaction of technology with politics and international affairs. He is the author of more than 90 technical publications, and his work has been recognized with eight best paper awards. Among his well known projects are the ZMap Internet-wide scanning tool, the Let’s Encrypt HTTPS certificate authority, and the TLS Logjam and DROWN vulnerabilities. A leading authority on the security of election infrastructure, Prof. Halderman co-chairs the State of Michigan’s election security advisory commission and has twice testified to Congress about election threats. He was named a 2019 Andrew Carnegie Fellow in support of his work to protect the technology behind America’s democratic institutions and processes. He received the 2020 University of Michigan President’s Award for National and State Leadership and the 2022 USENIX/Meta Internet Defense Prize.
