Era of Platforms

Abstract – The IoT revolution has already begun to transform many of our markets from a “sale of goods” economy to a “sale of goods and services” economy, but many of today’s businesses are still governed by a “pipeline model.”

Under IoT 2.0 – or The Platform Model – intelligent and connected platforms will emerge to enable new value chains based on a platform play, or an associated ecosystem play. This platform model will allow for other ecosystem players to add and complement with their own solutions, enabling greater scalability.

With so many attempting to capitalize in the vast IoT opportunity, the system designers participating in these value chains will not all be traditional embedded designers. Instead, some will be experts in application development and software design who have imaginative ideas they need to get to market quickly. Ali Sebt, President of Renesas Electronics America, will discuss how entities can adapt their business models to take advantage of IoT 2.0, stay relevant and grow. He will highlight new Automotive and Embedded IoT platforms from Renesas as examples of how forward-thinking companies can best serve customers by providing system solutions that let them focus on efficiently designing unique IoT applications.

Biography – As President of Renesas Electronics America Inc, Ali Sebt is responsible for Renesas’ overall business operations in the Americas including Engineering, Marketing and Sales. As Senior Vice President at Renesas Electronics Corporation, Mr. Sebt contributes to the global alignment of marketing and development strategies. Additionally, he heads the global IoT global business unit based in Silicon Valley, California, where he is responsible for providing the vision and thought leadership behind Renesas’ development of solutions for the evolving IoT economy. Mr. Sebt has extensive experience as a keynote speaker and thought leader in the electronics industry. His recent speaking engagements include keynote addresses at the IoT Developers Conference, IDC’s Smart Tech World, IMEC Global Summit, The Confab, and Renesas’ signature event “DevCon 2015.” Additionally, Mr. Sebt has been a panelist at various industry forums such as Cisco’s IoT World Forum and Verizon’s ThingSpace IoT announcement. Mr. Sebt joined Renesas Electronics America in 1991 and has held a number of successive management and executive positions. Prior to Renesas, Mr. Sebt’s positions included management for ASIC in-circuit emulators at Quickturn Design Systems, product marketing engineer for ASICs at Toshiba America, and applications engineer and product engineer at AMD and Monolithic Memories, Inc., responsible for PLDs and FPGAs. Mr. Sebt earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from California State University, Hayward, and completed the Stanford Executive program.
