Abstract: Electric Powertrain: Energy Systems, Power Electronics and Drives for Hybrid, Electric and Fuel Cell Vehicles is a structured holistic textbook for the teaching of the fundamental theories and applications of vehicles, energy sources, power electronics, electric machines and drives to engineering students. This four-part practical guide also acts as an industry reference. The textbook has been widely adopted for transdisciplinary teaching in the USA and abroad. In this short seminar Prof. John G. Hayes will provide an overview of electric vehicle technologies based on the textbook, and will discuss technical developments since the book launch in 2018.
BIO: Prof. John G. Hayes is at University College Cork, Ireland, and specializes in automotive, industrial and renewable energy systems and related power electronics, machines and electromagnetism. He previously worked in Southern California for ten years at General Motors developing EV propulsion and inductive charging systems for the General Motors EV1, the first modern production EV. John’s recent focus has been on the development of integrated and holistic EV teaching materials for the engineering student and the automotive professional.
John is the lead author, with co-author and former GM colleague Dr. Abas Goodarzi, founder of US Hybrid in Los Angeles, of the 2018 textbook for university teaching and industry reference.
