CSE Lecturer Candidate Seminar
Most file systems in use today are designed to build on functionality and optimize performance of hard disk drives. As both personal computers and data centers migrate to newer technologies for persistent storage, file systems need to evolve to expose the benefits of these technologies to applications. This talk will cover functionality required in FLASH device drivers and how they can be used to simplify and optimize file systems.
Drew Roselli earned her Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley based on research into distributed storage systems. Since then she has worked on distributed systems that run on tens of thousands of machines in data centers that span the globe, including Microsoft's Azure Store, Dryad execution environment, and the Bing speller. More recently, she has worked on re-designing file systems to more effectively leverage a variety of persistent storage technologies.
